INFORMATION

A home of contrasts that plays on form and materiality has transformed a 1930s bungalow into one of Claremont’s most striking multi-generational private residences.

Designed and built by Humphrey Homes, this 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom home pays homage to its rich heritage streetscape and breathes new life and energy into additional living spaces over two levels.

A glazed link and stairwell separates the original 1930s portion of old home from the new, transitioning you into a space that is extroverted and playful with an abundance of light at the rear of the home.

In-house architect Helen Marchesani said the aesthetics were inspired by the form and materiality of the original home.

“This home is a series of asymmetrical gabled pods - mimicking the strong asymmetrical gable at the front of the original home; they surround the external north-facing courtyard, which is dominated by the neighbouring 20m canopied ghost gum tree.

“Peekaboo red brick screens provide protection to the north facing outdoor courtyards, in a playful reference to the dado brick band on the original home.”

Clever zoning, integrated entertainment/alfresco and living over two floors, allow this home to address the need for transitional living and working from home. In keeping with its purposeful contrast, equally the design allows an abundance of quiet and private spaces to retreat when needed.

"This home started as a hand sketch from our in-house architect in response to how this family likes to live," Owner/Director Dean Humphrey said.
