Striking and contemporary, this Humphrey Homes custom build is everything homeowners Wayne and Kylie wanted, and then some.
Completed to perfection, the orientation of the Swanbourne home means it captures views of the park across the road.
With a classic upside-down design, an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area acts as an inviting zone for the family to come together on the upper level.
Grand south-facing windows usher a warm light into the space, while red cedar concertina doors bring the magical views from the balcony inside.
The parents’ retreat is also on the upper floor, offering direct balcony access with commanding views, as well as a double-sized ensuite and a large walk-in robe. A minor bedroom which could serve as a study is also located on this floor.
A further three bedrooms are situated downstairs for the children, in addition to a second living area, bathroom and laundry. Capturing views to the trees of the park beyond, this space opens out onto a private courtyard.
Humphrey Homes Owner and Director Dean Humphrey said the design captured a contemporary style.
“The elevation is striking, but not showy, and includes extensive use of glass and western red cedar to give it a warm and inviting feel,” he said.
“The facade and street-level entry introduce the palette for the rest of the house; modern white walls and travertine marble floors, coupled with sleek stainless steel and aluminium trims offset with feature red cedar. The elevation appears as an assemblage of light boxes articulated by floating horizontal planes.
“The continuity of the materials – in particular the red cedar external walls, blackbutt flooring and feature timber cabinetry – complement the design and set the tone for this modern yet warm family home.”
Mr Humphrey said the home was designed to complement the views of the park and to utilise the topography of the site to enhance each outdoor living area, as well as to maximise views from indoor living spaces and major habitable rooms.
“With this ethos in mind we designed a home sympathetic to the difficult site and the clients’ needs,” he said.
