Meet the team

Great things happen with seamless collaboration

Dean Humphrey is the Owner and Director of Humphrey Homes which is a Cottesloe architect and building company.  His passion for architecture and building started when he built his first home at the age of 20 in Kalgoorlie.

He established Humphrey Homes in 1999 and rebranded it in 2012 to be both a registered builder and architectural practice.  Under his leadership the company has delivered many inspired homes which have won repeated praise from clients and industry bodies.

He travels overseas once a year to seek inspiration and design cues from new and emerging architecture and how that can be applied locally.

His involvement with your home is very hands on:  regular office and on-site meetings, plus constant emails and phonecalls, and his measure of success is very simple:  a glass of champagne with you when you move in.

"So far, it's been a 100% success rate," he says.

He is the President of the Housing Industry Association WA  and will remain in that role until 2023. It is a voluntary role and comes two years after he served as Vice President, while still very much staying at the helm of Humphrey Homes.  He was the Chair of the WA HIA Technical Services Committee and represented Western Australia on the National Technical Services Committee, plus the HIA Regional Executive Committee for many years.    He lives in Cottesloe with his wife and three children and is actively involved in the local community.  He has been a member of the North Cott Surf Club since the early 2000s, and starts most mornings there at 5.30am, both in the water and at the gym.  If you don't see him there, you'll catch him at Little Sup or Eric Chamberlain  grabbing a flat white on the way to the office or to site.

Helen's passion for striking architecture is evident the moment you meet her and is why she leads the Humphrey Homes design team.

She has worked in residential architecture for 25 years, having focused on high-end single residential for most of that time.

She spent a large part of her career with Philippa Mowbray Architects and also successfully ran her own architectural business, designing homes in the western suburbs.

"My passion and what inspires me most is the delight and excitement on clients faces as we work together.

I love architecture, design and fashion - anything to satiate and stimulate me visually - and being involved with clients homes and their lives on such a personal level is pretty special."

Helen is registered with the Architects Board of Western Australia and is a member of the Australian Institute of Architects.  For the past decade she has assisted the Board by examining those new to the field.  She holds a Bachelor of Architecture with honours from Curtin University.

Outside of work, she is an active mum to her nine year old son and indulges in our coastal lifestyle.   Most weekends are spent outdoors and often at the Trigg Island Surf Club, where she is a member.

Tom offers you extra peace of mind when it comes to managing the delivery of your home.  He works seamlessly with the creative and design teams to ensure milestones are met and uses proven processes and forward planning to manage concurrent deadlines.

He oversees all of the early administrative parts of your home, from design documentation to Energy Rating Compliance through to Council Approval.  He is active in coordinating trades, suppliers and materials as well as managing and facilitating budgets.

As with all of the Humphrey Homes team, he is proactive in liaising with clients.

“I spend most days liaising with clients, keeping them updated on progress and seeking any feedback that they may have.  It’s a very collaborative relationship, which clients appreciate."

He holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Architectural Science) from Curtin University.

He is married with two children and spends most of his spare time on the weekend either watching or playing soccer.

Joie and Katie work directly with clients and collaborate to get the best possible creative results for a cohesive interior asthetic.

Joie brings global experience to Humphrey Homes and an extension and sophistication to our architecture.

As one of our in-house interior designers - or interior architects - she works with you to design and refine indoor and outdoor spaces, including kitchens, cabinetry, lighting and landscaping, as well as assists with all the various material and product selections.   Her role is to work with you to identify the overall personality of your home so that it suits your tastes and reflects your influences.

After graduating with a Bachelor Degree in English and Design in 2000, Joie travelled and worked in Sydney, London and South Korea.  Once returning to Perth, she pursued her love of fine art managing a prominent art gallery in Subiaco for a number of years. She then moved into styling and completed her studies in Interior Design.

Joie has worked in residential interior design since and has a wealth of construction knowledge to assist her design skills.

“As an interior designer and lover of all things design, architecture, art, photography, fashion and lifestyle I am always researching and growing as a designer.  I love this constant sourcing and my need to be immersed in the creative process.

Whether that is sourcing materials, or painting up render colours for my clients, I love and am passionate about Interior Design and how an interior space can elevate how we live day-to-day.

I love getting to know our clients' personalities and translating them into the interior and exterior elements of their home, so that when they move in they feel like the space not only reflects their ethos, but enhances their life and their families lives in the spaces we create."

Joie loves painting, building, renovating and all sorts of creating, even cooking!   Away from work you can find her looking after her young daughter and often in the South West at a winery with friends or the beach, painting art, or collecting vintage art and furniture.

The strength of our creative team is further bolstered with a second in-house interior designer working directly with clients.

Katie's love of architecture and interior design cultivated her passion for her career with her citing that there was "never another career option as I knew from a child that this was my path."

Growing up in the South West, Katie moved to Perth in her early 20s and in 2012 completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Architecture at Curtin University.

Her experience in residential interiors and architecture is evidenced with the work she does with Humphrey Homes as well as when she successfully managed her own successful interior design studio for six years.  She brings a level of sophistication and great industry contacts which enables her to source products and work with clients to cultivate ideas and solutions that best highlight how they like to live.

Katie's mantra is evidenced day-to-day when working with clients: "good design should be life changing and beautiful."  She emphasises that creating homes that are truly unique to our clients is what makes my job so special and rewarding. Getting to know our clients on a personal level so we can deliver them a unique home that truly represents them is my passion.”

When not working, she enjoys exploring down south and spending time with her husband and two young children.

There is a strong sense of unity, teamwork and collaboration amongst the entire Humphrey Homes team.  We all operate together with one collective mission: to design and build homes that our clients love.
