Every home has a story and for this local couple it is all about downsizing in style.
This is the fourth project that Humphrey Homes has built for Wayne and Kylie over the last 20 years.
"It started with a small renovation in 1992, then a substantial two-storey addition in 1997, then our large family home in Swanbourne in 2008 and now this current home, which will be our last, in 2020," Wayne said.
This Swanbourne downsizer was designed by Humphrey Homes and built in less than 12 months. It belies its 306sqm block under high 6m ceilings to give an effortless feeling of space and light.

Why did you decide to engage Humphrey Homes?
We have enjoyed a 20-year history with Dean and wouldn’t go anywhere else! We trust him and the entire team, like the way they operate and enjoy that they have everything under the one roof, particularly an in-house architect, project manager, estimator and interior designer.
What was your brief?
We wanted a stylish downsizer that worked for the suburb of Swanbourne and the way we like to live. It's a small block so we wanted to make the most of its size. We also needed a design that was flexible so when we have family and friends stay, they have space to themselves too.
We worked pretty closely with Humphrey Homes' in-house architect and in-house interior designer to achieve what we wanted which an entertaining home that is light and bright and reminiscent of our coastline.
How did Humphrey Homes meet the brief?
Well, look at the home! It has high 6m ceilings, great orientation, northern light, heaps of storage and clever zoning. It is essentially a 'house within a house' with us living day-to-day living on the lower floor and the upper floor fully self contained for when others visit.
What advice would you give to someone deciding to embark on their own homebuilding journey?
Find an architect and builder you can trust and easily communicate with. Having an in-house architect is a bonus as everyone is on the same page from the start.
Is there anything else you would like to mention?
Dean and the entire team take such pride in their designs and builds so you know that you will end up with a lovely product. We have loved every project they have done for us over the years.
