This single-story home sits below street level but refuses to shrink into the landscape. Our in-house architect, Helen Marchesani, purposefully gave the home height and presence as viewed from the street, with graceful curves to draw you in.
As you step through the entry the arc of the front wall continues inside, directing you to the heart of the home and the garden beyond.
Designed as a downsizer, the brief was for a passive solar home with great connection to the north-facing garden, good ventilation, easy access and flexible multi-use spaces. The resulting 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom home is based around a simple home structure, with a generous kitchen and open-plan living at the centre of the home, flowing through to the outdoor living area.
The home has a modernist influence. Materials and textures are celebrated; the functional takes on a sculptural form. The garage door hides in plain sight, integrated within timber panelling. Louvred slot windows sit within the opposing curve, echoing the geometry of the panelling.
Designed and built by Humphrey Homes, this welcoming single-level home makes a statement through its simplicity.
